The S24H International Ultra Running Race is an ultra-marathon which consists in covering the longest distance in 12, 24 or 48 hours of running, alone or as part of a relay, on a 1236 meter asphalt loop, lit during night time.
Top runners are able cover up to 270 km in 24 hours. The world records for 24 hours are 255.3 km for women – set in 2011 by Mami Kudo from Japan and 303.5 km for men – achieved in 1997 by the exceptional ultra-runner Yiannis Kouros from Greece.
In 2016, on the first edition of S24H, the longest distances covered by Romanian ultra-runners were:
- Razvan Farkas 207.1 km in 24h (men);
- Mara Morosan 180.9 km in 24h (women);
- Arnold Dekani-Engelman 112.7 km in 12h (men);
- Mariana Nenu 121.3 km in 12h (women);
The winner of the first edition of S24H was Levente Halama, ultra runner from Hungary, who covered 222.5 km in 24h.
Diana Amza – the Manager of S24H Ultra Running Race – also likes ultra-running herself and she has already covered ultra-marathons of 53 km, 61 km and 100 km. The idea of organizing the S24H race originated in the will to offer all runners an opportunity to surpass their current limits and to discover the lessons offered by long distance running which can also be applied into daily life: to see beyond your present limitations, to trust your body, to consolidate your mental abilities, to successfully fulfill a task despite your physical and mental fatigue, to increase your discipline and perseverance, to learn how to feel comfortable in uncomfortable situations, to achieve the certainty that you can overcome any obstacle that crosses your path.
If you decide to take part in S24H Ultra Running Race, we would like to thank you and guarantee a transforming experience that will provide you the opportunity to spend enough time with yourself in order to discover who you really are. We wish you great success and we are looking forward to seeing you to Timisoara, to write history together!
